The atmosphere in the prisons is heavy; there are men and women who are wounded, angry, violent, hardened, and desperate. For several years now, teams of brothers have been regularly visiting prisoners in the prisons of Bologna, Ferrara, and Turin. But the plan is to expand this ministry to other cities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In Turin, a shelter for inmates on furlough and those who have completed their sentences has been opened in the premises of a former hotel adjacent to the church. The goal is to help them reintegrate into society, this time as disciples of Jesus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The prison ministry project is currently run by volunteers. Our vision is to help build a network of ministries by encouraging our various communities to establish ministries in different prisons. The situation inside prisons is dire. In several cities, Italian prisons are holding twice as many inmates as their capacity allows. In the first three months of this year alone, there have already been 30 suicides. In 2023, 160 inmates committed suicide, which clearly illustrates the distress prevailing in these institutions. Prisoners have a desperate and urgent need to encounter Jesus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
